If you have a pool, and it’s the only interesting part of your home’s exterior, it’s time to make some changes! These are the best design ideas to complement your pool.

Gorgeous Railing and Safety Features

Railing and safety features are a must for almost any homeowner with a pool. Not only should you add features to protect those that live in your home, but it’s also something that will increase the value of your home when you’re ready to sell.

Deck railing leading down any steps to the pool and within the pool’s entry itself is a great way to ensure nobody slips and hurts themself. Beyond this, a short fence is also a great idea in most areas, especially if you have pets or children. In some states, a small fence is a requirement in order to have a pool on your lawn. Think of it as a promise of safety and privacy.

Visual Appeal and Shading in a Pagoda

Pagodas are one of the oldest outdoor decor items in existence. Not only are they gorgeous and visually striking, but they also have the ability to add shade and comfort to any space. This is awesome since summers are getting hotter, and many people cite the heat as a reason they don’t go out much in the summer months.

Pagodas come in a large assortment of shapes, colors and styles, so think about what would work best with your home. You can pair it with a climbing plant, like morning glories or ivy, to add an extra dreamy level of shading.

Fresh Deck Stain and Sealant

Your deck will be taking on a lot of punishment if you have a pool. Tons of water mixed with either chlorine or salt and sunlight together can be extremely damaging. To protect your deck and make it last as long as possible, use a heavy-duty deck stain in a color that suits your home.

You don’t have to have it match your trim perfectly, but if your home is in a warmer shade, take the time to pick a stain that’s in a warmer shade as well. On top of this, you need a sealant that will ensure the stain and wood are both protected. These steps will keep your deck in working order and looking great while it lasts.

An Area for Lounging in the Sunlight

Sometimes it’s nice to get out in the sun! Sunlight is a great source of vitamin D, which is important for mood regulation. Without enough sunlight, you can suffer from things like seasonal affective disorder or even depression. Also, it can be nice just to spend some time in the sunlight!

Create a space with comfortable lounging seating where anyone can sit and enjoy the sunlight. Have all furniture at least five to six feet away from the water’s side, and ensure that it’s sealed to last through both the weather and the pool water.

Patio Pavers Built to Last

Patio pavers are an important part of the home’s exterior since it’s the main surface you’ll be walking on. Consider getting concrete patio pavers with a pattern or attractive texture that will stun while people walk to and from your pool. Although this can get expensive, it’s a good investment to ensure that nobody slips on their way to or from the pool, especially if you don’t have a deck.

A Brick or Stone Fire Pit or Fireplace

Not every day and night is going to be hot! Fire is something that’s both visually attractive and also fun to have around for entertaining. Create a firepit at least thirty feet away from your pool. Use brick or stone to create a safe space for it, so there’s no risk of it spreading, and consider including a metal base within it to hold your logs or other burning materials.

This is an awesome focal point because it can be a great space to gather if nobody wants to swim or when the weather has turned colder, and you still want to be outside. If you decide to go swimming after dark, having the fire burning can also attract insects away from you and the pool, allowing you to comfortably swim as late as you want to! This is especially great for entertaining large groups of people.
