Universal Design Zero Entry Homes

Your Questions Answered
1. What is Universal Design?
Universal design combines zero entry (no steps and very, very little entry threshold) with many other interior features that allows the home to be your forever home. Features include:
- wider hallways
- walkways and doorways
- larger bathroom layouts
- smooth threshold in doors and showers
- wood backing behind the walls so that if you ever need to add grab bars you can easily do so.
PRK Williams Building Group offers all of these items without compromising the beauty of your home. You might not even initially notice these upgrades, but just experience a more open feeling of the home.
2. Why do I need a universal design zero entry home?
Universal design zero entry homes are really designed to address mobility concerns even before you may need to. The truth is that we never know if age, injury or illness could limit the mobility of you or someone in your family. We are also seeing more multi-generational households. As many of us are addressing some of these concerns with our parents, now is the time to think about a plan for your future and create a home that can be that forever home for you. A home where you can be independent and safe no matter your mobility. Because of the forward thinking on the design, these homes are also easily adaptable for full accessibility.
3. Why is PRK Williams Building Group an expert in zero entry homes?
PRK Williams Building Group was founded on the idea of improving lives for others. Our sister company, To The Rescue, offers many services to individuals with disabilities and we began by building beautiful new homes for these clients. We have been perfecting the zero entry homes designed to meet mobility and accessibility concerns for many, many years. We have truly become an expert in this specialty.
4. Do I need to choose a special lot for a zero entry home and do they cost more?
You will need a lot that is fairly flat in the front. Some clients choose a slab design so that the entire home is free of stairs. Some clients choose a lot that has a drop off in the back yard to accommodate a lower level assuring that the first level is still suited to any level of mobility. We also design wider stairs to the lower level to allow for a chair lift if ever needed.
A zero entry home may have a very minimal cost increase. This is well worth it if it keeps you safe and in your home longer.
